Which diabetes drug to choose for which patient? The day’s first keynote session was given by Dr David Strain (University of Exeter, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital). He discussed different classes of diabetes medications and their advantages and disadvantages, emphasising the importance of early initiation and early intensification of treatment. He also highlighted the serious problem of non-adherence to treatment, as two thirds of patients with diabetes do not take their medication as prescribed.
