Introduction Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is an advanced cardiac imaging modality indicated in the assessment of most common cardiology conditions.1 It is a technique that has become increasingly accessible and utilised in clinical practice. CMR is the gold standard in assessing cardiac chamber volume and function with infinite imaging planes, and is not restricted by body habitus, in contrast to transthoracic echocardiography.2 It also allows the non-invasive assessment of the myocardium through tissue characterisation with delayed enhancement following gadolinium-based contrast agents, and more contemporary techniques, such as pa

The list of contributors alone should be enough to guarantee that there is something to learn for most involved in cardiology imaging. The strengths are that it takes someone with a very limited knowledge of any of the individual modalities and walks them through the basics of how images are formed, through to making advanced diagnostic decisions. Some sections manage to seamlessly

Given the gulf between easily accessible training, and the need for experience in CMR, several doctors working with the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) produced an online, fully accredited course to teach CMR. It is free-to-access for all, but if you want accreditation or CME/CPD you need to be a member of either SCMR or the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS). Over 10 modules, the course covers essential knowledge ranging from MR safety to the assessment of congenital heart disease. Each module consists of didactic training in the form of pre-recorded lectures, coupled with clinical CMR cases, accessed via an easy to us
