Abstract
The Forum has contributed a great deal to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine across the UK and beyond over the last seven years.
This has been achieved through successful fulfillment of our main aims, which the CVGP will continue to pursue:
to represent primary care cardiovascular health needs at policy level
to promote best practice in primary care cardiovascular health through education, training and service development
to support the development of primary care healthcare professionals and teams in the delivery of cardiovascular medicine
to facilitate and lead primary care cardiovascular research.

Abstract
Activities
The Society has been instrumental in developing guidelines for the management of hypertension, which have been modified on a variety of occasions. In particular, we have interacted with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) on their last two guidelines. Both the BHS and NICE guidelines are looked upon as highly influential worldwide. We have also successfully lobbied Government in respect to reducing dietary salt in foodstuffs. It is likely that more stringent Quality Outcome Framework blood pressure treatment targets will be introduced next year as a direct result of the Society’s influence. BHS Member
