Echocardiography delays in suspected infective endocarditis: a single-centre retrospective database analysis

Abstract

Introduction Infective endocarditis (IE) is a severe, life-threatening infection affecting the cardiac endothelium, carrying a substantial risk of morbidity and mortality.1,2 In-hospital mortality typically ranges between 15 and 30%, increasing to nearly 40% at one year.2,3 IE is diagnosed with echocardiography, a non-invasive imaging modality that uses ultrasound waves to create a detailed image of the structure of the heart.
