Designed to give healthcare professionals an understanding of the scope of the problem of acute coronary syndrome in the UK, with consideration of those at higher risk, and the high future risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events in survivors of myocardial infarction.

Learning objectives

After completing this module, participants should be better able to understand:

  • the definition of acute coronary syndrome
  • the rates of myocardial infarction in the UK and the associated survival and re-infarction rates
  • interventional strategies for the management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
  • how to determine who is at very high risk of re-infarction
  • the policies for the prevention of ACS events and how to implement them
