Obesity module 1: management in primary care

Three programmes are available for NHS referral in Hampshire:

• WeightWatchers
• Slimming World
• Health Trainers (a local provider)

People have to meet the following criteria:

• 16 years and above
• BMI >30 kg/m² with one or more of the following co-morbidities:

– cardiovascular disease

– high risk of cardiovascular disease

– type 2 diabetes

– metabolic Syndrome

– surgery or medical intervention dependent upon weight loss

• BMI >28 kg/m² in South Asian population with one or more of the above co-morbidities

This service does not accept people who:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have eating disorders
• Have been a member of Weight Watchers or Slimming World within the last sixmonths
• Have special dietary needs, e.g. coeliac disease
• Have type 1 diabetes
