MAT-XU-2504705 (v1.0) | November 2025

Effective lipid management is crucial in reducing the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), yet many patients continue to fall short of their cholesterol target due to suboptimal treatment strategies.1 In this interactive e-learning module we’ll explore the key principles of lipid management, including current guidelines, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets and pharmacological treatment options. We’ll also examine a patient-centred lipid-lowering pathway developed by Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, which uses a distance-to-goal approach to guide timely, appropriate escalation of treatment based on individual patient profiles and lipid targets.

Learning objectives

Upon completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Update your knowledge of national lipid guidelines and treatment targets
  • Assess lipid-lowering therapies and combination strategies, considering both treatment efficacy and individual patient needs
  • Implement practical, patient-centred strategies to support long-term lipid control and reduce cardiovascular risk across diverse patient groups
